We are a Salesforce-focused development services organization that serves customers globally. We are a young company of about eighty people which have worked together in the past on a previous incarnation of Oktana that built all kinds of Force.com products and appplications for customers in Asia-Pacific, Europe, North America and South America. Our team is made up of some of the most passionate people in the industry averaging eight years on the Salesforce platform.
We work with a large array of organizations such as Salesforce.com, Salesforce.com’s customers, Independent Software Vendors, Systems Integrators and Product Development Organizations. We translate ideas to products through software development on cloud environments such as Force.com where we write Apex and Visualforce and Heroku where we write NodeJs and Ruby on Rails. We connect and integrate these technologies with mobile applications and big data backend. Through these platforms, we deliver to our customers work of the highest quality so that they can focus on adapting to their evolving industries.
We like to keep things lightweight and move quickly. We work in small, dedicated teams to keep things as manageable as possible. If the scale requires a large headcount we organize focused sub-teams so objectives can be achieved by smaller groups of developers more effectively.
Sharing code and code handoffs are an everyday thing at Oktana. Partly because our customer’s retain the IP of the work we produce for them but mainly because we collaborate with people globally. To us, this means that we have the obligation of writing code that’s well structured, well commented and that follows industry standards so that we can share surprise-free Git repositories.
Our development work includes testing our code with a focus on quality assurance automation where we automate the majority of our test cases. Our quality assurance work involves working with a variety of tools designed to cover a variety of scenarios.
We adhere to agile development methodologies like Scrum. Our work is organized using mostly our own project management instance which we open to our customers so that we can collaborate together. We communicate on a daily basis with our customers to go over our progress, discuss roadblocks as a team and to provide transparency on our velocity. Our favorite way of communicating is using videoconferencing tools but we align with our customer’s preference when they bring a tool of their choice. Our cultural proximity and convenient time zone overlap allow for good communication, which is key for the success of all our projects.
Our future depends on a lot of things but mostly on us. Even though we are an experienced bunch, we consider ourselves a young company and we are going to need all the help that we can get.
